Scottish Water Joins Large Diameter Flow Meter JIP
TÜV SÜD National Engineering Laboratory is pleased to announce that Scottish Water has joined its recently launched Joint Industry Project (JIP) looking at the measurement uncertainty of large diameter flow meters.
The collaborative research project aims to help the water industry increase knowledge on the performance of large diameter flow meters. Increased accuracy of these meters will allow better compliance with abstraction licenses, ensuring water resources are not over-abstracted and providing more accurate supply demand water balance calculations, thereby allowing improved regulatory reporting.
There has been very little independent testing of large diameter meters carried out, as their size makes testing and calibration expensive. This means there is a gap in knowledge regarding their performance and accuracy, which this JIP aims to fill.
Tim Brus, Water Balance Planner, Scottish Water, said: “We are pleased to be participating in this project which will benefit the water industry by allowing us to get a more detailed understanding of our network systems. It will allow us to have more precise knowledge on water demand flows, which will contribute to helping meet our regulatory targets."
Carl Wordsworth, Head of Water Sector, TÜV SÜD National Engineering Laboratory said: “We are delighted to welcome Scottish Water to our Joint Industry Project. The project is an opportunity for water companies to find out more about the effects of pipe diameter and upstream disturbances on flow meter accuracy. The Design Guide that will be delivered from this project will be a valuable source of information for the global water industry when dealing with large diameter pipework."
