Employee Spotlight: Gregory Jacobson

Gregory Jacobson - Sales Manager, MHS, at TÜV SÜD AmericaGregory Jacobson

Sales Manager, MHS, at TÜV SÜD America

#FutureInYourHands – This motto properly describes how TÜV SÜD empowers its employees. It’s best to hear from TÜV SÜD executives and staff members what their personal experiences are working for TÜV SÜD.

Can you describe your role within the company?
I am in Sales for MHS and I specifically focus on certifications for cardiovascular and orthopedic devices. I’ve been in this role at TÜV SÜD for 9 years now.

How did you choose this career path?
I wouldn’t say I chose this career path, but instead that it found me. I was recruited into this industry early on, so I’ve been working in Sales for more than 20 years.

What do you enjoy most about your job and working at TÜV SÜD?
I really enjoy working with startup companies because I get to see all types of new medical devices. I also thoroughly enjoy being around people who are committed to making an impact on humanity. It’s interesting to see the kinds of cutting-edge technology so many companies are developing.

Are there challenges you've faced in your career that have taught you important lessons?
As a Salesman, you have to accept that experiencing failure is part of the job. However, it’s important to not get discourage, but instead, take that failure as a lesson and use it as motivation to learn and strive to be better. Some of life’s best lessons are learned the hard way. I believe being open to career growth and opportunities has not only made me a better Salesman, but also a better employee in general.

What do you think the industry will look like 20 years from now?
From a medical provider standpoint, I think we will see a decrease in person-to-person interaction. Automated and virtual systems will play a more prominent role in our lives. By that point, I think human life expectancy will be longer and we will have more knowledge on, and control over, diseases.

When not working, how do you spend your spare time?
I recently celebrated my 50th birthday. I enjoy spending time with my family, but my daughters are both away at college, so my wife and I are finding things to do with our free time. I like to be outdoors, so both fishing and exercising are interests of mine.
