The Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) (2014/68/EU) applies to the design, manufacture and conformity assessment of stationary pressure equipment intended to be sold in the European Union with a maximum allowable pressure greater than 0,5 bar. The new Pressure Equipment Directive was published in the Official Journal of the European Union L 189 on June 27, 2014. The new PED Directive 2014/68/EU replaces the old PED 97/23/EC. If you are a pressure equipment manufacturer looking to access EU markets, compliance with this new directive is mandatory.
The basic principles of the PED have largely been retained. The new Directive includes minor changes in the scope of application and the conformity assessment tables. In addition, existing certificates will remain valid. All businesses looking to access EU markets for new equipment must be certified for and comply by this new Directive.
As far as the new requirements are concerned, two dates are critical: Some parts of the new PED 2014/68/EU already came into effect on June 1, 2015, while other aspects came into effect on July 19, 2016. Since this deadline, the old Directive may no longer be used, and the new Directive must be upheld in order to receive CE marking.
If your Notified Body for the pressure equipment is located in the United Kingdom, it may no longer be compliant for EU standards. Achieving compliance and CE marking through a Notified Body for PED 2014/68/EU is necessary to retain access for these markets.
